Two hunters were rescued in a remote area of Idaho County after being stranded for two days.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, New York natives Steven Orts and Griffin Gallagher, both 26, had parked their vehicle at the end of Lake Creek Road near Big Salmon Road. Idaho County dispatch received an emergency call about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday from the International Emergency Response Communications Center that was coming from the West Lake Creek drainage, about 1 mile from where the hunters had parked their vehicle.

The two men had reportedly been hiking for more than two days and were dehydrated and exhausted and were stuck on the face of a mountain with no way off.

The Grangeville Mountain Rescue Unit responded early Thursday morning, and at about 10:10 a.m., Dylon Jameson with the unit located the hunters, provided them with water and food, and safely transported the men back to their vehicle.
