New 988 crisis line launches tomorrow nationwide

988

Starting tomorrow, citizens all over the United States can call the number 988 to be connected with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

The Lifeline is a national network of over 200 local, independent, and state-funded crisis centers equipped to help people in emotional distress or experiencing a suicidal crisis. 988 was established by the The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to improve access to crisis services. The Lifeline accepts calls from anyone who needs support for a suicidal, mental health, or substance use crisis.

That number again is just three digits – 988. You can also reach the Lifeline at its existing 10-digit number: 1-800-273-8255.
