LC’s Van Dyke claims Indoor NAIA National title in men’s 800, Olsen make All-American

Lewis-Clark State senior Clayton Van Dyke won the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship in the men’s 800 meter race Saturday in Brookings, South Dakota.

The Vernal, Utah, native became the first LC State Warrior to earn the top spot at nationals, indoor or outdoor, in the 800, doing so with a time of 1:50.89. Van Dyke had run the fastest 800 time in the nation leading up to the national championships. The win was even sweeter as the senior had previously finished second twice in the event at nationals. The win also gave Van Dyke is fifth All-American honor in track and field and sixth overall.

Meanwhile, senior Cole Olsen also earned All-American status after finishing eighth in the 3000m run with a time of 8:28.43. Olsen, a Clearwater native picked up his third All-American honor in track and field and seventh overall.
