Three of six teams advance at Idaho State boys basketball tourneys

All three local teams advanced yesterday (Thur) in the opening round of the Idaho State 1-A Division I boys basketball tournament at Vallivue High School in Caldwell.

The top seed and defending champion Lapwai cruised to an 83-to-39 win over Lighthouse Christian. Kase Wynott led the unbeaten Wildcats with 23 points.

Roman Nuttbbrock put up 11 points as Logos downed Oakley 37-to-35 in a low scoring game. The Knights advanced and will meet Lapwai in the semi-final round this afternoon at 4 p.m. Pacific Time.

Meanwhile, Kamiah put on a defensive clinic in beating Liberty Charter 41-to-23. Lukas Krogh led the way for the Kub with 14 points. Kamiah will now meet Grace in the other semi-final tonight at 6 p.m. Pacific.

In the Idaho State 1-A Division II tournament at Caldwell High School: Kendrick fell to Rockland 55-to-40. Jagger Hewett led the Tigers with 18 points. Meanwhile, turnovers doomed Timberline as the Spartans lost to Carey 62-to-40. Logan Hunter led Timberline with 9 points and 7 rebounds. The Spartans will face Kendrick in the consolation bracket tonight at 6 p.m. Pacific with live coverage on KLER-FM 103.3.

In the 4-A tournament at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian: Moscow fell to Jerome 63-to-46. Jamari Simpson and Taylor Strong led the Bears with 14 points each. Moscow drops into the consolation bracket and will square-off with Burley tonight at 6 p.m. Pacific.
