Asotin County officials have begun the initial count of votes in yesterday’s (Tue) Washington Primary Election.
With nearly 5,000 votes tabulated last night, the Clarkston EMS Levy has garnered 59% approval so far. It needs at least 60% to pass.
Meanwhile, the rural EMS levy for property owners who live outside the Asotin County Fire District boundaries is failing so far with 55% opposed.
It’s a close race for Asotin County Sheriff. Current Undersheriff Blake Richards has a narrow lead of 51% to 49% for Asotin Police Chief Monte Renzelman. Both will appear on the November General Election ballot.
In other races, Asotin County voters chose incumbent Michael Baumgartner for U.S. Representative District 5. Incumbent Joe Schmick is leading in his bid for legislative District 9, and Pomeroy state Representative Mary Dye, who ran unopposed, was re-elected.
Officials will continue to count votes as they arrive, and more information is expected to be released later this week.
