The Asotin Police Department is sending out a warning about door-to-door solicitors. In a press release, an APD officer says Asotin has seen a recent increase in people trying to conduct business in town.
The release suggests that you always ask to see a business or solicitor’s license, because they’re required to have one in most locations.
If you’re interested in the product, but wary of the interaction, you call the police if the salesperson doesn’t have a license.
If you don’t want the person at your door, ask him to leave. If he doesn’t leave, call the police. Once you have asked him to leave, it becomes trespassing.
The APD also recommends you always do your research. Check with someone local. If the salesperson gives you referrals, it could just be a partner answering as a customer.
They also warn that some people, posing as solicitors, may just be casing your home to see what’s inside, what kind of security you have, and see what’s valuable. The APD suggests you always keep the person in sight, watch what they’re doing, and never give out personal information.
