Local kids all over the LC Valley got to meet up with baseball players at school yesterday. The NAIA World Series starts this morning and the players for Doane University were in Asotin, chatting with kids over a special lunchtime BBQ.
“It’s great elementary school questions, like, ‘how old are you?’, ‘have you played baseball your whole life?’ and ‘can you sign my chips bag?’ So it’s pretty cool. It seems like they’re enjoying it. Both sides.”
Head Coach Josh Oltmans says his guys are loving the LC Valley. Coming from Nebraska, he says the players got to practice in Asotin where there’s a view of the river and the hills all the way around, and it’s nothing like back home.
“It’s been a dream of ours to come here and play in the World Series. It’s fun for them to see it. You know, you see it in pictures and you see it in videos, but it’s way cooler when you’re here.”
This is Doane University’s first visit to the World Series in Lewiston. They play in the morning game and Asotin kids will be there cheering them on.
