Asotin County Fire’s Solar Project Paying Off

Asotin County Fire recently made a big investment next to a water retention pit behind the station and now it’s paying back in a big way. The Fire District has been looking into ways to save money at their new facility, and a solar array was expected to save taxpayers some cash. Fire Chief Noel Hardin says it’s saving more than just “some”.

They told us it was going to average around a $1,500 per month savings, and we’re seeing that right now. Our average bill was about $3,200 per month, between gas and electric together, and just last month our Avista bill was $750, so we’re real pleased with the outcome.”

After the district paid much of the initial cost with grants, they found out there was also an IRS tax credit that helped bring the cost down as well. Overall, only about $8,000 came out of the local taxpayers’ pockets. Hardin says they’ll easily make that money back in savings just this year alone.
