The month of April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), which was enacted in order to draw attention to the prevalence of sexual assault and to educate communities about prevention.
Every year local law enforcement and the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office work to hold offenders of sexual violence accountable by investigating and prosecuting sexual violence related cases. As a part of raising awareness about sexual assault in our community, the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office has partnered with local businesses to distribute cup covers to help prevent the
use of date rape drugs.
Reusable cup covers can be picked up at any of the following locations in Lewiston:
Hops and Vine- 527 Main St. Suite 2
Jollymore’s-1516 Main St.
Corner Villa-2110 14th Ave
Brock’s and Bravas-504 Main St. #201
Groundwork Brewing-1225 Snake River Ave
“The use of roofies is something that unfortunately happens in our community and it’s simply unacceptable,” said Nez Perce County Prosecutor Justin Coleman. “I want to encourage people to get these cup covers and use them but also to be careful not to leave their drinks unattended. Huge thank you to the businesses working with us to distribute them and helping raise awareness of this danger” he said.
Rohypnol (often referred to as roofies) can be used as a date rape drug. Symptoms can start within 15 to 20 minutes and may persist for 12 hours. The “after” effects can include difficulty remembering things that happened while under its influence, feeling woozy, hungover, confused, dizzy, sluggish and uncoordinated, upset stomach and difficulty moving limbs normally.
