New Law Protects Slow-Moving Farm Equipment Drivers

A new law in Idaho protects anyone driving combines, tractors, construction equipment, and more when they’re using the road and going under the speed limit.

Senate Bill 1224 changes current law about driving slowly and being forced to pull over. Now that Governor Little signed it, once it takes effect July 1st, it will be legal for slow-moving equipment to stay on the road and keep traffic backed up if “no safe and reasonable designated turnout or location exists…to temporarily exit the roadway or otherwise allow traffic to pass.”

State law currently requires any vehicle moving slowly with three or more vehicles behind it to pull over at a safe location when it’s on a 2-lane highway outside of an urban area.
