Idaho Fish & Game recently put 900 fish in Kiwanis Park Pond, and nearly 150 of them have come up dead within 2 days. Fish & Game investigators are looking into the incident, and say there’s no obvious environmental cause. Oxygen levels were within normal ranges and temperatures remained stable at about 55°. Hatchery staff reported no issues during transport to the pond.
They say anglers at the pond have reported high catch rates, and that indicates the other stocked fish are healthy and actively feeding.
They’re planning to stock fish again in April, but if it’s determined to be unsafe, they’ll put the fish in Soldiers Meadow Reservoir instead.
