Friday there was no sign of Osprey, but Saturday morning they were seen building their new nest. Just last Wednesday a group effort between Avista Utilities, the City of Lewiston, and Idaho Fish & Game built a new platform for the birds. The old one was too high off the ground and close to the road to access easily in an emergency. In recent years, birds have gotten stuck in the bailing twine they found to use as nesting material. Last year traffic had to be shut down and too much time passed before a tall enough bucket truck could be brought in to reach the bird.
There is already debris hanging from the new nest. Idaho Fish & Game is aware of it and they’re watching it closely in case it becomes a problem.
