Firefighters rushed to a blaze on the Snake River, just west of Central Ferry. It happened on the Garfield County side just before 3pm yesterday (Mon). Firefighters from Asotin County Fire headed out to help and took their boat because that was the only way to get a fire crew to the location.
A social media post by Asotin County Fire says it was sparked by an Army Corps of Engineers maintenance worker who was mowing in the area. It goes on to say winds along the river helped fan the flames, spreading the fire quickly through the dry vegetation.
The fire was contained at about 6:30pm. Asotin County Fire District #1 Chief Noel Hardin said the incident highlights how dry conditions are at lower elevations.
The fire burned an estimated 10 acres. No injuries were reported.
