A new bill would give schools 72 hours to notify parents if a student wants to “socially transition” to another gender.

House Bill 822 says “The legislature finds that…parents have a fundamental right to raise their children and make medical and educational decisions on their behalf.” It goes on to say “Medical and social sex transitions can inflict severe and irreversible harm to a child’s well-being.”

Among other things, a school would have to tell parents if their child: requested different pronouns or titles that don’t match their biological sex, wants to use different names, wants to use a restroom, locker room, or similar facilities for the opposite sex, or requests to be on an athletic team or sex-separated activity for the opposite sex.

It’s being called the “Pediatric Secretive Transitions Parental Rights Act.” If it passes and the Governor signs it, it will be effective on July 1st.
