
Two people were arrested yesterday (Tue) after crashing a stolen vehicle in north Lewiston.
According to a Lewiston Police Department news release, an officer was responding to an abandoned vehicle call when the automated license plate recognition system alerted it had scanned the plate of a reported stolen vehicle.
The Officer conducted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle in the 2300 block of 3rd Ave. N. The vehicle fled and began traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of traffic towards the intersection of 3rd Ave. N and US Hwy 12. The Officer did not pursue the vehicle as it was driving erratically in the wrong direction.
The vehicle eventually ran a red light and crashed into two vehicles that were traveling southbound through the intersection on US Hwy 12.
Following the crash, 41-year-old Thomas Curd, of Spokane climbed out the sunroof of the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody after a chase.
The passenger in the stolen vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Nicole Kalousek, was detained after attempting to walk away from the crash scene.
No one was injured in the crash. Curd was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail for an active warrant as well as multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. Kalousek was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail for an active warrant as well as misdemeanor charges.
