The brakes failed on the Interstate Bridge this morning, causing a roughly 20 minute delay for traffic. A Washington State Department of Transportation communications person said once the bridge was up, the brakes that control the motion wouldn’t release, causing the traffic issues.
The raising was the normal monthly test that’s required by the U.S. Coast Guard. The DOT spokesman says crews were able to release the brakes and check them. He says there is no danger to drivers and it shouldn’t be an issue again.
