LC Valley firefighters have been training on a building at the top of Thain that they plan to burn down tomorrow. The building at the corner of Stewart and Thain was formerly the IdaVend Radio stations. The stations were sold to McVey Entertainment (KOZE radio) and the empty building to Steve Carlton.
Lewiston, Clarkston, and Asotin County firefighters were there last week and this week with some slight smoke in the building. They’ve been burning pallets and straw inside to simulate the conditions of a fire while searching for victims. Like many buildings in the valley, it has a basement, so firefighters are using that in their training as well.
Tomorrow (Thurs), they plan to burn the building. They’re warning neighbors and passers-by to be prepared for smoke coming from that area.
Stewart Avenue and part of 8th Street will be closed off. They’ll have trucks parked in the roadway like they would in a real fire, and hoses are draped across the road from the nearest hydrant.
