LC Valley firefighters began training this morning on a building they will eventually burn down. The building at the corner of Stewart and Thain was formerly the IdaVend Radio stations. The stations were sold and the building was emptied.
Lewiston, Clarkston, and Asotin County firefighters were there this morning with some slight smoke in the building. They’re burning pallets and straw inside to simulate the conditions of a fire. Like many buildings in the valley, it has a basement, so firefighters are using that in their training as well. Starting Thursday, they’ll begin cutting holes in the roof and interior to simulate having to access difficult areas among other things.
November 20th, they plan to burn the building. They’re warning neighbors and passers-by to be prepared for considerable smoke coming from that area.
During training each day Stewart Avenue and part of 8th Street is closed off. They have trucks parked in the roadway like they would in a real fire, and hoses are draped across the road from the nearest hydrant.
