The public is invited to a wreath-laying ceremony to honor military members and veterans at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, on the northwest lawn of the University of Idaho Administration Building on the Moscow campus. A Military Appreciation Dinner will follow that evening at the ICCU Arena.

The ceremony will feature bagpipes, buglers and the university’s Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC units. U of I President Scott Green will give remarks recognizing the long military-related history of the university and the service of the Vandal community.

The featured speaker for the evening dinner is Idaho U.S. Senator Jim Risch, who will share remarks honoring Idaho veterans and military-affiliated families. Dinner reservations can be made by contacting Brad Martin at 208-885-0935.

The state of Idaho also recently allocated $8 million to renovate Targhee Hall into a Joint ROTC and Veterans Center — a new space that will bring together the university’s military commissioning programs and services for student veterans.

Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day and began on Nov. 11, 1918, when the Allies and Germany signed the armistice that ended hostilities on the Western Front of World War I. This year also marks the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps — all founded in 1775.
