The Lewiston Fire Department will be conducting live fire shift training exercises next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the former Idavend Radio building at 805 Stewart Avenue.
According to a news release, over the past three months, department personnel have used the structure for simulated rescue scenarios, tactical and strategic deployment drills, and other fire readiness training.
The upcoming full-scale live fire simulations will provide firefighters with valuable opportunities to practice, evaluate, and refine firefighting techniques under realistic conditions. Additional training components will include civilian rescue, firefighter rescue operations and chainsaw use training.
Following the training burns, crews will prepare the structure for a final controlled burn scheduled for November 20th, beginning at approximately 9:00 am. Fire department personnel will remain on-site throughout the event until it’s deemed safe to clear.
During the affected dates and times, Stewart Avenue will be closed to traffic at the intersections of Thain Road and 8th Street. Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and use caution in the area due to increased emergency vehicle activity.
