Deputies, police officers, and firefighters squared off this morning to see who would take home the coveted Guns N Hoses trophy, while benefiting local food banks and charities.

Grocery Outlet in Lewiston gave each department a $225 dollar budget and 4 minutes to spend it on things their charity of choice needs. Lewiston Police Chief Jason Kuzik says their charity was the food bank at Whitman Elementary School.

We know they do a lot of good work and they help a lot of these struggling families. It’s hard enough worrying about meals and food and still making sure your kids are getting educated and everybody’s comfortable… It’s one that we always feel has been really responsive to their community.”

All five departments: Clarkston Fire, Clarkston PD, Lewiston Fire, Lewiston PD, and the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office took the food to their charities after the winner was announced. The winner each year is chosen by how much the receipt says they saved by shopping at Grocery Outlet. The Clarkston Fire Department won last year. This year the award went to the Clarkston Police Department and their charity — Clarkston High School.
