A local Emergency Management Director has been elected to lead at the state level.
“It gives Asotin County a seat at the table. I’ll be part of the leadership team for a state-wide organization that represents Emergency Managers from all levels of government.”
Asotin County’s Emergency Management Director, Nick Bacon, is the President-Elect of the Washington State Emergency Management Association. He says this position will bring an awareness of what’s happening across the state, even in the most-remote parts.
“I look at it as a win for all rural counties, not just Asotin County.”
Bacon says this should help keep the little guys from getting swallowed up by the needs of places like Seattle.
“Like with anything, with any function of government, the larger, more robust, well-staffed agencies have a larger voice just because they have more people, and you can really get lost trying to be the one small, rural county speaking up amongst that.”
Bacon is acting as Vice-President right now. He’ll take the reigns as President October 2026.
