
Lewiston Police report the child hit this morning on 21st Street was airlifted to Spokane with life-threatening injuries. It happened at about 7:44 in the intersection of 21st Street and 11th Avenue.
A release from the LPD says an 11-year-old boy was hit by a Ford F-150 while he was using the crosswalk. The driver was a 21-year-old Lewiston man who remained at the scene. He was reportedly turning right off 11th Avenue to head uphill (southbound) on 21st Street. The release says he had a green light at the time of the collision. It also says the driver was not impaired.
The 11-year-old was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was then airlifted to Spokane.
The incident is still under investigation. The LPD is asking anyone who witnessed it to call either School Resource Officer Smith or Corporal Carson at (208) 746-0171.
The police department reminds everyone to use caution when approaching intersections and crosswalks, especially around school zones and times children are heading to and from school.
