The Idaho Transportation Department is reminding political campaign workers that they can’t just put signs anywhere. A release from the ITD says signs must be placed outside of the right of way on all state roads. That includes shoulders and drainage areas. They say placing signs in these areas can make it less safe. It blocks sight distances, creates distractions, and hinders maintenance activities.
If crews find signs in the wrong place, they’ll be taken down and stored at the nearest maintenance shed for someone to pick up.
They’re also reminding sign posters that if you want it placed on private land, you must get permission from the property owner first, and make sure you pick it up at the end of the campaign, regardless of the outcome.
