Washington Mountain Passes To Get Weekend Snow

Idaho isn’t the only place expected to get snow this weekend. The Cascade Mountains in Washington will likely get a thorough dusting, but it’s not likely to stick around in most places.

The National Weather Service expects the snow level to be 3,500 feet at its lowest over the next several days. Snoqualmie Pass is just over 3,200 feet, so it will get plenty of rain, but it’s not likely to get snow accumulation on the roadway.

White Pass on Highway 12 is plenty high enough at 4,500 feet, so there’s snow predicted Friday through the weekend with 2 to 4 inches building up Saturday night. That’s expected to be the heaviest part of the storm. Sunday there could be another 1 to 3 inches on top with more coming on Monday.

Chinook Pass on Highway 410 historically closes in November, so it’s expected to stay open, but it has been closed temporarily in October before for heavy storms. By the time Monday night rolls around it may see 2 inches of snow built up.

Stevens Pass on Highway 2 will get half of an inch accumulating at most. Snow is expected off-and-on through Monday with afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

The North Cascades Pass on Highway 20 also closes annually, usually in November, but has been closed as early as October 17th. It’s not expected to get much snow, with afternoon highs in the 40s.

Locally, Alpowa Summit on Highway 12 between Clarkston and Pomeroy is expected to stay above freezing with just rain in the forecast.
