
A Cottonwood man is facing several charges for allegedly damaging hundreds of acres of farmland in Idaho County.
According to a social media post from the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Idaho County Dispatch received a report of an abandoned vehicle involved in significant property damage in the area of Lake Road and Canyon Road, just outside of Grangeville.
Deputies responded and located the vehicle in a nearby field. The vehicle’s airbags had deployed, and the front bumper was discovered in a plowed field off of Canyon Road. Tire tracks were found throughout cultivated fields on both sides of the road, which had been prepared for planting. The investigation revealed that about 600 acres of agricultural land had been damaged, with losses estimated at over $6,500.
Following a detailed review of the case in coordination with the Idaho County Prosecutor’s Office, a felony arrest warrant was issued yesterday (Tue). 22-year-old Tristin Staneart of Cottonwood, was arrested on the felony warrant for malicious injury to property. He was also cited for misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor leaving the scene of a damage accident, misdemeanor driving without privileges and an infraction for operator failing to register.
