Washington Governor Bob Ferguson has condemned the Trump Administration’s termination of more than $1.1 billion in funding for energy projects across Washington state.

According to a news release, among the targeted funding is $1 billion for the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub, a project intended to build out a clean hydrogen economy, create over 10,000 jobs, and lower emissions in technologies that are among the hardest to de-carbonize.

Washington’s hydrogen hub is among the largest projects targeted by the federal Energy Department, which vowed to cancel $7.5 billion in energy grants — funds that Congress previously awarded to states across the country.

Ferguson says the attack on those funds impacts almost entirely Democratic-led states, right on the heels of a government shutdown that affects nearly 80,000 federal workers in Washington.

Locally, the termination of funding will also impact four projects at Washington State University, totaling $9.8 million.
