Authorities Release Names in Lewiston Murder-Suicide Case

lpd-2

The Lewiston Police Department has released the names of the two people involved in Sunday night’s murder-suicide.

According to a news release, at about 8:10 p.m., officers received a 911 call that a woman had been shot at a home in the 3700 block of 11th Street. Officers responded to the residence and found 46-year-old Melissa Hammond had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. 54-year-old Eugene Grende of Clarkston, was pronounced dead in the early morning hours Monday from a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

Lewiston Police Detectives determined Grende was involved in a dispute with residents of the home that resulted in Grende shooting Hammond multiple times before shooting himself.

Investigators have confirmed the dispute was between acquaintances and not related to domestic violence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lewiston Police Department by calling (208) 746-0171.
