The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office is sending out a warning about a recent scam. A release from the Undersheriff says a company calling themselves “Asphalt Paving” is trying to do questionable business.
The release says one resident was quoted $54 to repair a pothole in a driveway. After the work started, the company did more work than requested, seal-coating the entire driveway, and then demanded more than $6,000. The resident ended up paying for it.
The undersheriff says the company is not licensed, bonded, or insured and appears to be fictitious.
Undersheriff Richards listed ways to protect yourself. It includes not letting anyone pressure you into signing a contract or accepting a quote immediately. Be wary of deadlines or “limited-time offers”. You should always ask for references and do your own research, and check to see if the company is licensed, bonded, and insured.
If you suspect you’ve been approached by a scammer or have fallen victim to fraud, you can contact your county Sheriff’s Office.
