A new traffic garden is in the planning stages for kids in Clarkston. Organizers are turning a piece of land between Highland Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club into a place for kids to learn how to bicycle safely and have a lot of fun at the same time. The park will have a paved roadway with things like signs, crosswalks, and parking lots that teach riders how to act in traffic.
The Friends of Parks and Recreation group has taken the reigns of the project from Asotin County Community Services. They’re gathering donations to fund it, and it’s no small amount. They need a total of $250,000 to make it happen. P1FCU donated $10,000 already to get the planning underway, and now the rest will have to come from grants, if possible, and community support.
There’s a website that has all sorts of information and a link to where you can donate if you’d like to help valley kids become better bicyclists. You can find it here.
