Island Creek Fire Grows to More Than 14,000 Acres

The Island Creek Fire burning in the Selway River corridor on the Moose Creek Ranger District has grown to more than 14,000 acres.

Firefighters are continuing structure protection efforts in the Selway River corridor. Hot and dry weather continues until tomorrow (Fri). Air resources continue to be utilized to support the incident.

On the ground, fire personnel continue to work in the area west of Gedney Creek and north of the Selway River confluence to prevent further fire spread to the west. In addition, crews are assessing and felling hazard trees along the Selway River corridor to ensure firefighter and public safety.

Several road and trail closures remain in effect, including parts of the forest bounded by the Coolwater Road, the Falls Point and American River Road, and Forest Service Roads 464, 1129, 1119, and 223.

The lightning-caused blaze is still listed at 5 percent contained.
