Police Chief Monte Renzleman was at the Asotin School this morning to let parents know everything was ok. At 7:50, just 10 minutes before school started, a fire alarm went off, causing the evacuation of the building. A release from Chief Renzleman says because of heightened concerns from the school shooting in Minneapolis this morning, he made sure the Asotin Police Department was there and visible.
The alarm was triggered by a system failure. Specialists are at the school today fixing the issue.
The release says the Asotin PD will continue to work with the school to “review safety protocols and enhance preparedness for future situations.”
