
The Island Creek Fire burning in the Selway River area of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests has grown significantly forcing some road closures.
The lightning-caused fire began July 31st and is now nearly 11,000 acres – more than doubling in size over the past few days in steep, rugged terrain.
A road closure is now in effect from O’Hara Creek to Race Creek and associated areas.
Some 80 firefighters are battling the blaze which is listed at 5 percent contained.
