Good news for the Asotin County Fire District tonight. So far, the votes have come back with voters in the heights, west of Clarkston, and other outlying areas approving the Emergency Medical Services Levy. Tonight’s ballot count is nearly 69% approving. 9,631 ballots went out and so far the Auditor’s Office has counted 2,754.
Voters approved it several years ago, but then state rules changed and it decreased from $.50 per $1,000 of assessed home value to $.35 per $1,000. This levy will put it back up to 50 cents. The funds will go to the Asotin County Fire District’s EMS budget to help people when they call 911 with an illness.
These numbers are not final until certified by the Auditor’s Office. Mail-in ballots sent in the last few days may still be coming, and will be counted before the final vote is known.
