The Seattle Mariners have acquired left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Jeter Martinez.
The 29-year-old Ferguson has made 45 relief appearances with the Pirates this season, going 2-2 with a 3.74 earned-run-average with 14 walks, and 34 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings.
Ferguson has appeared in 3 postseasons – two with the Los Angeles Dodgers and one with the Houston Astros.
The news comes on the heels of what possibly could be the biggest trade move before today’s (Thur) trade deadline, as the Mariners are reportedly finalizing a deal to bring slugger Eugenio Suarez back to Seattle.
An All-Star third baseman, Suarez has hit 36 home runs and driven in 87 runs so far this season. He was a member of the Mariners in 2022 and 2023 before being traded to Arizona.
