
The two fires east of McCall have grown by several thousand acres over the weekend.
Lightning started the Big Bear Fire July 9th in Idaho County. It grew nearly 2,000 acres over the weekend. It’s now mapped at 11,220 acres. The fire spans from Big Bear Creek drainage to Bruin Creek on the southern side of the Salmon River, and stretches to Nixon Creek drainage on the northern side of the Salmon River. It’s listed at 75% contained.
The Rush Fire was also started by lightning, this one back on July 10th. It’s just south of the county line in Valley County. Rush Creek Trail is still closed. The Soldier Bar airstrip burned over and remains closed. At last check it was 7,185 acres in size. It’s still listed at 0% contained.
