A trip to Seattle will take a little longer soon. Highway 26 is getting a roundabout in Othello. There’s no hard-start date announced yet, but next month road crews will detour traffic around the main intersection in Othello to tear it up and make a traffic circle. The Department of Transportation is calling it a “compact roundabout” at the intersections of Highway 26 and First Avenue.
A release from the transportation department says a safety program identified this intersection in 2019 for upgrade because of crash patterns.
During the work, the release says if you’re going through town you should be ready for either signals, one-way alternating traffic, or detours on side streets. It’s expected to be finished this fall, which means WSU returning student traffic will be impacted. The expected cost is $3.2 million.
