Cherry Fire Nearing Full Containment

The Cherry Fire, burning about one mile northeast of Deary, remains at 113 acres and is now 80% contained, with full containment expected soon.

The fire is burning in heavy logging slash within an active state endowment timber sale, with a small portion extending into the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests.

The fire’s perimeter has not changed in several days. Crews are now beginning suppression repair—the process of restoring areas impacted by firefighting, like fixing dozer lines, repairing roads, and addressing soil disturbance to reduce future erosion, while continuing mop up operations.

The Temporary Flight Restriction has been rescinded. However, the flying of unauthorized unmanned aerial systems, like drones is never allowed during an active fire incident.
