EMS Levy On The Asotin County Ballot

In 2016 voters approved an Emergency Medical Services levy. Now the Asotin County Fire District is asking them to do it again. Voters approved the 50 cents per thousand dollars of assessed home value, but changes in state law required it to drop to 36 cents per thousand. The current levy would return it to 50 cents.

A release from the ACFD says the levy pays for emergency medical personnel, equipment, and supplies. EMS calls make up more than 90% of the fire district’s workload.

If approved, the increase would cost the owner of a $300,000 property about $3.50 more per month.

If you’d like to know more, there are two open meetings coming up to discuss it. The first is Wednesday, July 23rd at 6:30pm at the fire station on Appleside in the Heights. The other is Saturday, July 26th and 9:00am at Kenzie’s Koffee in Asotin.

Fire Chief Noel Hardin said in the release “The EMS levy is essential to ensuring we can continue providing rapid, high-quality care when our community needs it most.”
