Firefighters were able to contain a fast-moving wildfire yesterday (Wed) in Asotin County west of Clarkston. The blaze started around 12:15 yesterday afternoon near Silcott Road.

Crews aided by aerial assets were able to defend several threatened structures in spite of extreme heat, dry fuels and windy conditions.

According to the Asotin County Fire District, the blaze burned an estimated 1,000 acres and is now fully contained. Crews remained on scene last night putting out hot spots and mopping up. State mobilization teams have been ordered to relieve local firefighters.

The fire is believed to have been started by agricultural equipment operating in the area.

There were no injuries reported.
