Today, July 2nd, is National Wildland Firefighter Day. Idaho Governor Brad Little made it official in the state as well. A proclamation he passed down today recognizes the sacrifice of Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Coeur d’Alene Fire Department Battalion Chief John Morrison. They were killed Sunday trying to put out a fire in the Coeur d’Alene area.

The proclamation also recognizes the highlay dangerous work Idaho wildland firefighters do as they protect millions of acres of private, state, and federal land.

Governor Little said today “As we enter this fire season, it is important we recognize our wildland firefighters and the important work they do…I encourage the people of Idaho to join me in observing Idaho Wildland Firefighter Day.”
