Much of our area, including Lewiston and Pullman just set new records, but they might not be good ones. June was the driest on record in both towns.
Both May and June have been extremely dry, even for LC Valley standards. The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association has released their findings and the entirety of Nez Perce, Clearwater, and Lewis Counties are considered “Severe Drought” right now.
June saw a record low .08” of rain in Lewiston. The normal amount is about 1.2”. May wasn’t much better with just .51”, barely over a third of the normal amount of 1.45”.
The Pullman/Moscow area is in similar condition, finishing June with a record low .10” of rain, with a normal amount of 1.19”.
There’s not much data for the prairie or Clearwater Valley, but Pierce, Idaho also set a record. Normally they get about 3.11” and June saw just .82”.
