When Are Fireworks Legal?

Many firework stands open at 9am tomorrow (Sat) when it becomes legal in Idaho and Washington. In the city of Lewiston It’s also legal to light them off. In Clarkston, you’ll need to wait until Independence Day itself.

Fireworks that are legal in the valley are called “Nonaerial common fireworks”. That includes ground spinners, fountains, sparklers, smoke devices, and snakes designed to remain on, or near, the ground. That does not include firecrackers, jumping jacks, or similar products. If you can buy it in Lewiston or Clarkston at a legal stand, it’s legal to use in that town.

It’s also important to note that, according to Lewiston City Code, a parent or guardian can be held responsible for the actions of anyone under 18 years old. Illegal use of fireworks can result in a misdemeanor and fine of up to $1,000.

Here are the times & dates locally when it’s ok to light them off according to local law enforcement or fire departments.

Lewiston: June 28th – July 5th 9:00am – 11:00pm
Clarkston: July 4th 9am-midnight
Asotin: July 2nd, 3rd 9am – 11pm, July 4th 9am – midnight, July 5th 9am-9pm
Asotin County (outside of incorporated towns): July 3rd 11am-11pm and July 4th 9am – midnight

We’re waiting to hear back from the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office on dates & times in unincorporated areas of the county. This article will be updated as soon as we know.

UPDATE:  This article has been updated to remove July 5th from legal dates in Asotin County now that the burn ban starts at 6:00am on July 5th.
