A plane came in to the airport today and the pilot stepped on the brakes a little too hard. That was the scenario for the exercise at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport this morning. In the simulation, a wheel caught fire and the blaze burned several passengers. Airport Director Michael Isaacs says it gave the Lewiston Fire Department firefighters and medics, airport employees, and other responders the chance to find out what to do in this kind of situation.
“This always is a good training environment for all these people to get together to see, it helps everyone understand what everybody else’s role is in a big event like this.”
This training is required by the Federal Aviation Administration every three years because Lewiston has commercial air service.
