As part of its continued commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness, the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport (LWS) will conduct a full-scale emergency exercise at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow (Thur).

According to a news release from the airport, the comprehensive drill, held once every three years as required by federal safety regulations, is more than a procedural requirement—it’s a vital investment in the community’s readiness and resilience.

The exercise will simulate a large-scale emergency and serve as an opportunity to evaluate and enhance interagency coordination, emergency response protocols, and crisis communication under realistic, high-pressure conditions.

Participants will include a broad coalition of emergency responders and public safety professionals, including firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement, airport staff, City of Lewiston staff, airline representatives, and other local government agencies. The groups will work to manage a dynamic, real-world scenario designed to challenge and improve response effectiveness.

Officials remind the public that tomorrow’s event is a training exercise only. The public may notice increased activity around the airport, including emergency vehicles and personnel. There is no cause for alarm.

“While we hope to never face such emergencies in real life, our teams prepare as if we will,” said Airport Director Mike Isaacs. “That preparation can save lives, and this exercise ensures we’re ready to respond swiftly, decisively, and together.”
