The Post Fire burning near U.S. Highway 12, just west of Post Office Creek in the Lochsa River corridor, is now 81 percent contained.

Firefighters began backhauling equipment no longer needed from the fire line yesterday (Thur), with a helicopter hauling sling loads from a helispot on the north side of the fire. Backhaul by helicopter will continue as weather conditions allow.

With control lines in and more favorable weather arriving, fire managers have released some hotshot and initial attack crews to other priority incidents in the region. The organization will continue to downsize as work on the fire line begins to wind down. The remaining crews will carry on with mop up actions and securing the fire perimeters, aided by welcome precipitation.
