New Effort Underway in Asotin County To Stop Opioid Overdoses

Asotin County health leaders have started a new campaign to stop opioid overdoses.  The “A Spray Away” public education campaign is underway, encouraging LC Valley folks to pick up naloxone kits.  If you haven’t already, you’ll soon see billboards and hear radio ads about it.

Naloxone comes as a nasal spray to reverse an opioid overdose in minutes.  They assure potential users that it’s safe, simple to use, and available through the Asotin County Health District.  You can also get it through most pharmacies and by prescription from your medical professional.

A release from the department says between 2021 and 2023, there were 25 drug overdose deaths in Asotin County.  Nearly two-thirds of those involved opioids.  Fentanyl is increasingly being found in counterfeit pills, raising the risk of accidental overdose.  In Washington State, Naloxone reversed at least 39,000 overdoses.

Naloxone only works on opioid overdoses, but it’s not harmful to someone who overdosed on something else, so they encourage you to call 911 if you find someone who may have overdosed, and then administer Naloxone.

If you have questions, you can go to the AC-HD.org or contact the Asotin County Health District.
