“Jingle in July” Block Party Kickoff Saturday

The Salvation Army is having a block party this weekend.  Saturday they’re kicking off their Jingle In July fundraiser with a free party.  It includes food, drinks, crafts, music, water games, bounce houses, and face painting.

The Salvation Army has a $70,000 funding shortfall for the programs they offer the LC Valley.  Things like the food pantry, hot meal program, and hygiene center are funded through community donations.

You’ll see the red kettles and ringing bells outside local grocery stores throughout July to help build back their reserves.  If you’d like to help out, you can make a donation at the block party, at lewiston.salvationarmy.org or by calling 746-9653.

Last year the Salvation Army in Lewiston served more than 12,500 meals.  That’s a 67% increase over 2023.  They also provided 400 grocery boxes, 7,700 free clothing items and toys and 1,100 vouchers to help families with emergency food, clothing, furniture, and more.

If you’d like to volunteer, they need bell ringers on Friday and Saturdays in July, except on the 4th.  You can get signed up at RegisterToRing.com.

The block party is completely free and open to everyone.  It’s this Saturday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.  It’s at their building at 1220 21st Street in Lewiston.
