A bill is just waiting for the Oregon Governor’s signature to become law making the T-bone, the official state steak.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 13 notes that Oregon has a state nut, state beverage, state fruit, state vegetable and even a state pie, but no state steak.  The language goes on to mention “Whereas the T-bone is a remarkable steak that features two distinct cuts of beef: the strip steak (which packs a bold, beefy flavor and has a hearty texture) and the filet (which is renowned for its exceptional tenderness and mild taste); and Whereas there’s nothing quite like the mouthwatering smell of a T-bone sizzling on a grill…” and it goes on mention what other Oregon foods pair well with a steak.  It also talks about how important cattle ranching is to the state since 1824.

The resolution was signed yesterday (Tues) by the House Speaker and the Senate President.  It passed the senate unanimously.  Two representatives, one Republican and one Democrat, voted against it.  There’s no discussion as to why.
