Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has cosponsored House Resolution 3917 – the Protection of Women in Sports at Military Academies Act. The legislation would prohibit the participation of males in athletic programs or activities at the military service academies that are designated for women or girls. The measure is sponsored by South Dakota Republican Congressman Dusty Johnson.
In a news release, Simpson says “an overwhelming majority of Americans agree that men do not belong in women’s sports.” He added that “upholding the promise of Title IX means protecting women’s sports at every level of competition, including the nation’s military academies that provide students with an excellent opportunity to pursue higher education, and compete in athletics.”
Alabama Republican U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, former head football coach at Auburn, has introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
